Do I completely trust in God?
Obviously I have a long way to go… But it is an important question to consider because this trust will only ever be my one source of both joy and peace (Rom15:13)
As I choose not to trust my understanding but His (Prov 3:5-6)… as I see things I have previously hoped for are too small or unimportant… it causes me to ask God, by Holy Spirit, to illuminate what is actually important.
The way I see this world is incomplete and broken… so my peace will only come as I step out in faith and believe:
- God’s hand IS at work in my life and therefore,
- What is brought up… how the detail is filled in… relationships, jobs, challenges and blessings… all these elements ARE the very best thing for me BECAUSE by walking in faith, I am living out God’s redeemed purpose for my life. So all things now,
- Come from the Father
- Bring me closer to Jesus (and make me more like Him)
- Cause me to become more and more reliant on the Holy Spirit
WHO IS MY TRUST IN?
WHERE IS IT PLACED?
Only when trust is in God alone will we have hope overflowing through the Holy Spirit.
It is a trust that must be threefold... a reflection of the Trinitarian nature of God. Why?
- We must trust in Christ that we now stand redeemed
- We must trust in the Father that His Sovereign will IS the very best thing for us
- We must trust in the Holy Spirit… for it is only by the Holy Spirit that we are enabled to walk and finish the race well… WHY? Because:
- The Holy Spirit makes known God’s plan.
- He also fills us with strength… and for me this strength IS joy and peace. Because it is from a place of joy and peace that I can freely accept my understanding is incomplete… lay down what I once believed… ask God to illuminate a greater portion of truth… and step on to something foreign… It is only with peace that I can make this step…
(additional thoughts)
I guess the only question that remains is whether peace comes first?... or do we step out in faith believing that peace will come?
This is just an interesting thought and is worth briefly exploring.
Change (particularly when it is in regard to what we understand) is uncomfortable. However we often associate peace with a feeling… therefore if we feel uncomfortable… and peace to us is a feeling… then we will surmise that we shouldn’t step out because we don’t ‘feel right’… obviously during a state of change and challenge discomfort will be the natural state.
Which then leads us back to the initial question - "Do I completely trust in God?"
If I walk in His will. If I walk in wisdom and under the guidance and instruction of His word… then my walk should be one of faith knowing that though I do not understand… though I might feel uncomfortable… this is His perfect will is done and peace will come as a result.
