Enjoy Today

As I look around at all the people coming to church today, I see in each one an amazing story. God has done wonders in a life there; and created beauty from ashes in another over here. He has not only redeemed our souls, but given our lives an amazing reason for being.

It reminds me of a familiar but old story:
A man is sitting on his porch in Kentucky. He's just retired from the post office. His first Social Security cheque arrives. He's very, very discouraged. He thinks, "Is this my life now - sitting on the porch waiting for my cheque?"

He decided to make a list of all the blessings and capacities he had. The list was long. In the list was his mother's recipe for fried chicken. Funnily enough, it used eleven different herbs and spices.

He went to a nearby restaurant and asked if he could cook the chicken. It soon became the most popular item on the menu. Despite numerous setbacks, he eventually opened his own restaurant, then others, and then a string of restaurants.

Eventually Harland (Colonel) Sanders sold the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise across all of America…and across the world!

In Christ, the best is always yet to come. Even when things are great, in Christ they can only get better. Our God is unlimited – Our God is in control – Our God is for us, not against us.

I remind you of Jesus Christ’s words to us, “that you may be filled with My joy” (John 15:11)

Enjoy today. Enjoy the sunshine, the music, the people, the food and the fun.

No matter how great today is…the best is yet to come!
